modAmi is an independent iPhone and iPad app, made in France by a single developer, Sébastien Secrecy. It verifies a loved one's identity on the phone with two shared words, without account or server. It is sold once or by subscription: no advertising, no resale of data.

Sébastien Secrecy, an independent developer in France, reachable by e-mail. The app was born from one call too many received by a parent. It is sold once or by subscription, with no advertising and no resale of data: that is its only business model.
Why it exists
The usual advice assumes you keep a cool head: “be wary”, “ask a personal question”. The moment a familiar voice announces an emergency, you no longer have one. modAmi does the opposite: it gives you something simple to check, and takes over when it doesn't add up.
How it was built
- Hundreds of sources went through: victims' forums, official alerts from France, the United Kingdom and the United States, press testimonies.
- A guidance path first written as a prototype, reviewed thirty-six times, then checked by automated tests at every change.
- A dedicated review for people aged 65 and over: contrast, target size, one thing per screen.
- Five languages, and the emergency numbers of more than two hundred countries.
What modAmi does not do
- It does not analyse voices and does not detect deepfakes: it doesn't need to.
- It does not block calls and does not listen to your conversations.
- It does not replace your judgement: when in doubt, hang up and call back.

The words and the secrets stay in the Apple keychain, encrypted.

No data is sent to our servers: there aren't any.
No account
No sign-up, no password, no e-mail address to give.
Backup in your hands
iCloud backup is optional, encrypted with a password you choose.
The project diary
Before the app, a series of posts on secrets2freelances.fr, the publisher's site, laid out the problem month by month: the advice that fails under fear, the limits of a code word, the data leaks, then the specification. They are in French; the last one has an English version.
